Say goodbye to fast food fries and try Air fryer frozen French fries! You can make super crispy, delightfully satisfying French fries at home that taste like the deep-fried drive-through fries- crispy, salty and guilt-free!
I'll admit, I was skeptical. I did not believe that air fryer French fries could end up just as hot, crispy, salty and delightful as my beloved drive-thru fries.
Without oil? Yes, I know it's hard to believe but you've got to try these and you will be hooked.
Air fryer French fries turn out exactly like your favorite fast food French fries.
They are super crispy on the outside and light and tender on the inside. Never mushy like baked fries.
Ingredients
Frozen French fries- choose any stick style frozen French fries such as crinkle cut, steak fries, or regular.
Oil- While optional, a light, neutral oil like vegetable or avocado oil, (bottled or spray) can be applied to the fries to maximize crispiness even more.
Salt & pepper- Optional, check to see if your bag of frozen French fries are already seasoned.
Instructions
Preheat the air fryer.
Spray the inner basket lightly with oil to prevent sticking.
Lightly spray the fries with oil and toss to maximize crispiness.
Sprinkle the fries with the desired amount of salt.
Add the frozen French fries to the inner basket in one loose layer.
Don't overcrowd the basket.
Cook the fries for about 20 minutes, giving the basket a shake halfway through the cooking time.
Once the fries are done cooking, remove the basket and enjoy hot, crispy French fries without the deep fryer or drive through!
Tips
Preheating the air fryer for a few minutes will help the fries become crispier, although it's not a required step.
Typically, a full (2 pound) bag of frozen French fries will crisp up well in a 6 quart or larger air fryer.
For smaller air fryers, do a half bag (1 pound) at a time.
For extra crispy fries that taste just like deep fried, spray a small amount of oil lightly over the frozen French fries.
If you don't have oil spray, rub a paper towel dipped in oil around the inside of a large bowl then toss the frozen fries in the bowl to barely coat.
Toss the fries halfway through the cooking time to ensure an even crisp.

Air Fryer Frozen French Fries
Equipment
- Air fryer
Ingredients
- 1 bag frozen French fries regular cut or crinkle cut
- ¼ teaspoon oil spray
- salt optional
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Lightly spray oil in the inner basket, and over the frozen French fries.
- If desired, lightly sprinkle the fries with salt.
- Cook the fries for 15-20 minutes, tossing halfway through to allow for an even crisp.
- Serve right away from the basket when finished cooking.
Notes
- Use a half bag (1 pound) of frozen French fries at a time in an air fryer that is 6 quarts in size or less in order to get the full crisp effect.
- You air fry a full bag (2 pounds) of frozen fries in air fryers that are 9 quarts and larger, while still achieving maximum crispiness.
- Spray oil is a great tool for air frying French fries; use it on the inner basket to prevent fries from sticking, and lightly on the fries to add additional crunch and golden brown color.
- If you don't have an oil sprayer, use a paper towel to apply oil to the inner basket, then rub a large bowl with remaining oil and toss the fries to get them coated from the sides of the bowl. This allows you to use minimal amounts of oil, similar to using a spray bottle.
