Ingredients Needed
Get all of the info on these mini pizza bagel ingredients in the recipe card below.
- plain mini bagels- you can use whatever brand you prefer, just make sure they are plain bagels
- pizza sauce- pick your favorite jarred pizza sauce or make your own favorite pizza sauce using your favorite recipe
- mozzarella cheese- freshly shredded cheese melts better than the pre-shredded stuff in a bag.
- basil- fresh basil brings the most flavor, but dried can be used
- black pepper
- pepperoni slices- mini pepperoni slices are preferred but if you only have regular size pepperoni, you will need less slices.
How to Make Homemade Pizza Bagel Bites
Preheat oven to 375F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
Split bagels in half and lay bagel halves on the parchment paper.
Add a tablespoon of pizza sauce to each bagel half and spread it around.
Cover sauce with mozzarella cheese.
Add pepper and basil in a small bowl, mix and sprinkle on each bagel bite.
Cut pepperoni slices into 4 pieces each slice and then add to each bagel bite.
Bake mini pizza bagels for 16 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and has slightly browned. Keep an eye on your pizza bagels as they'll burn easily.
Remove sheet pan from the oven, let them cool so you don't burn your hands, and serve.
Storage
Pizza Bagel Bites can be stored in an airtight container in a single layer or bag in the refrigerator for up to 3 days after baking.
To reheat, place the individual bagel bites on a baking sheet and reheat for 5 minutes in the preheated 375 degrees F oven. You could also reheat these in the toaster oven on a toaster oven tray.
I'd use 30-60 seconds bursts of time and check the warmth as necessary.
I don't suggest using the microwave to reheat them because it will change the texture of the bagel.
Can I use a different cheese blend?
Sure, if you prefer something different than the classic fresh mozzarella cheese pizza topping, then you can use other cheese blends. Cheddar cheese mixed with mozzarella might be nice. Or you can use Monterey Jack Cheese.
What other toppings can I add?
You can add any other pizza toppings you prefer. I would recommend using small pieces of whatever you're looking to add.
Try adding some green bell peppers, mushrooms, salami, ham, sausage, bacon bits, whatever you enjoy on regular pizza would be good on homemade bagel bites.
The best part about making your own bites are that regular pizza toppings are great options, just smaller portions are needed. Just don't overcrowd the topping or use too much so it makes it hard for the oven to melt the cheese.
Tips
- Using the upper middle rack is best for cooking this quick snack in the oven.
- You can use regular pepperoni or turkey pepperoni.
- Instead of using basil, you could use Italian seasoning.
